I completed this drawing of a PHI Bell 407 in Galveston Texas about a year ago. I've resized it to allow better view of the details. It is also graphite pencil on bristol paper. PHI (Petroleum Helicopters Inc) provides helicopters to the offshore oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico.

This piece was interesting for me because I completed the aircraft first, then let it sit for a year. I had put weeks of energy into drawing the aircraft, and I didn't want to mess it up with a bad background. I went through many different pictures trying to make my mind up, but finally decided on an airport scene at the Galveston Texas airport. After a couple dry runs on other pieces of paper, I finally laid down the background and I think it turned out well. From that point on, I have always done the background first!

The Bell 407 is a light single engine helicopter, weighing 6,000 pounds and carrying 7 people. It was an upgrade from the Bell 206 series, and is has a much more powerful engine.

This drawing was originally 12x16 inches but I had the print maker increase the size to 16x20 to allow space for a matte. For more information on purchasing a print, please contact me at hoverart@gmail.com
