Description
This is a pencil drawing on bristol paper that I did a couple years ago. I've resized it to allow a better view of the details. I drew it from a picture of a PHI EC-135 that I had taken a picture of in Port O'Connor Texas. PHI (Petroleum Helicopters Inc) provides helicopters to the offshore oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico.
This was the first pencil drawing I did from a picture I took. I had done this just as a hobby in my spare time, but enough people approached me about buying it that I eventually had some made. When doing a drawing like this, usually the lighter stuff is put in with a hard pencil (4H 2H H HB). Then I come in after with the softer pencils (B 2B 4B 6B) to add the darker stuff in. This limits the amount of smudging on the piece.
The Eurocopter EC-135 is a twin engine light helicopter that has gained popularity in EMS and the Gulf of Mexico. Instead of a tail rotor, it uses a Fenestron, which consists of a set of enclosed fan blades, which increases safety. It seats eight and weighs 6,415 pounds fully loaded.
This drawing was originally 11x14 inches but I had the print maker increase the size to 12x16 to allow space for a matte. For more information on purchasing a print, please contact me at hoverart@gmail.com
